The smaller sized block was much easier to deal with as the embellishments were just little snippets instead of major productions:)
At first I got out all my yellow and green trims and beads but then I realized that it was all wrong and very boring. I had some pretty variegated pinky peachy DMC embroidery thread that I won from So September in October 2012. I made some little "flowers" with some iffy (don't look too close) French knots and that was it. Away I went:)
By the way, if you want a few ideas on how to couch rick rack and ribbon, Corinne at So September has just done two tutorials recently that you might find interesting.....here and here.
I made a cardboard window frame of sorts so you can see what it will look like once I bind it. I stole this idea from my buddy Vee over at The "Bearister" Bookcase. She made one so she could pick out areas on her white work for her pin pillows. I thought it was a brilliant idea:)
I have no idea how to describe my crazy quilting style...it's different from what I see in Bloggerland. I haven't learned the "rools" yet.

Forget me whats. |
The flowers are all different...don't look |
I really really REALLY need to practice some embroidery stitches. I've been doing cross stitch so much that I've gotten out of the way of doing other stitching.
The next block is Summer.....sun, bright colours, buzzing bees...no snow...no freezing temps...heat:)
Asian lilies in my garden... summer 2013. |
I'll leave you with that image.
Take care:)
Oh so pretty.
ReplyDeleteoh I think this is really pretty Mary Ann, as for the flowers all being different, I didn't notice, but I've yet to see any flowers in the garden that are all identicle :)
ReplyDeleteIt is very pretty and you should be proud.
ReplyDeleteyou did a lovely job. I really like all the beads specially the ones holding the button.
ReplyDeleteWell Mary Ann, I'm impressed!! It's lovely. If there are any rules, I say don't follow, just do what you're doing because it's great!
ReplyDeleteIt's so lovely! I love the different ways you have embellished the piece - the tree is the perfect reminder of warmer Spring days and the pyramids of French knots are sweet!

Really pretty Mary-Ann and it just shouts spring! Lovely. xx
ReplyDelete"rools" schmools - they are meant to be broken! Your block is beautiful! Love all the little details!
ReplyDeletethat's So beautiful and frankly, I prefer your 'rools' lol
ReplyDeleteThis is really pretty, love the colours- makes one think that Spring isn't so far away.
ReplyDeleteMary Ann, this is such a gorgeous block. You have a gift for crazy quilting!!
ReplyDeletehugs Karen
The first rule of crazy quilting, is that there are none! You are developing your own style...unique to you and that's as it should be. Looks pretty excellent to me - and a definite reminder of elusive spring!
ReplyDeleteLOVE your Spring square Mary Ann, so beautiful and definitely makes me think Spring. Thanks also for the links to So September's tutorials, never would have thought to combine the trims with the embroidery stitches like that! Can't wait to see Summer and keep on doing what you're doing, regardless of the 'rools' because your square is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteIt works great for viewing the shape you intend to end up with isn't it? .... I think for my next egg though...I want to make a fatter one.... it ended up a bit more elongated than I thought it would be... and, somehow I must try to stay on the lines with the silly machine...I'm terrible at it.... machines are just not my bag at all!! I'm hopeless!
ReplyDeleteOh my, oh my, the block is absolutely stunning. You do the most exquisite embroidery. I can't wait to see your next block.
ReplyDeleteOh, this is so pretty MaryAnn! You don't need to learn any 'rools' - looks to me like you're doing just fine without them. I love your style - it's got all the elements of crazy quilting that I like, but it doesn't feel cluttered and overwhelming to look at. I love it! Can't wait to see your summer block - and I hope working on these puts you in a warm state of mind ;)
ReplyDeleteDon't follow the rules! This is brilliant! Just wonderful and bright and full of exciting things to see. And those french knots look pretty good to me.
ReplyDeleteReally love your Spring Block.
ReplyDeleteYour work is gorgeous!
