- Monday's child is fair of face
- Tuesday's child is full of grace,
- Wednesday's child is full of woe,
- Thursday's child has far to go,
- Friday's child is loving and giving,
- Saturday's child works hard for a living,
- But the child who is born on the Sabbath Day
- Is bonny and blithe and good and gay
Go here.......Day Born....and find out what day you were born on:) I was born on a Friday.
I remember memorizing this poem in school in order to remember the days of the week. I did a bit of research and apparently it was first recorded in 1838 in A. E. Bray's Traditions of Devonshire (Volume II, pp.287-288).
I remember being rather disappointed that I wasn't a Monday child and I was certainly very happy I wasn't a Wednesday child! Talk about childhood trauma for some little tyke....the person who wrote this had a lot to answer for....sheesh.
Take care:)
Thanks! I did the whole family. Very interesting. I'm a Monday and not too sure about my fair face! lol
ReplyDeleteOh dear, I was a Wednesday's child :0( Fortunately, my fortune did not come true! Thanks for sharing! Deb
ReplyDeleteSheesh indeed.I am a WEDNESDAY Child!!Sniff..sigh.."Oh Woe is me..."
ReplyDeleteThat was fun. I'm Tuesday's child and full of grace. Others might say I'm full of something else. I wish being a Tuesday child had included having curly hair and being a bit taller.
ReplyDeleteGreat. I'm a Thursday. I'm not sure that is much better than Wednesday. ;)
ReplyDeleteSaturday's Child. I don't work at all! The rhyme would make an intriguing series of dolls, with Thursday's Child sat on a trunk and Tuesday's Child in dancing slippers.

It is a traumatic poem! My sister born on a sunday is somewhat like it describes but her dark side is that she flaunts it and makes other feel less... Me a Saturday Girl and I have worked since I was 13 but not any more! Sometimes I think it is appropriate to hide things like that away and not expose them to children until they can understand that it is ONLY a poem and not a forecast.
ReplyDeleteFor today, I will pretend I am Monday and enjoy the sunshine on my fair face!
Some of us are Wednesday Children ha ha, oh well, can't win em all
ReplyDelete:-) X X X
I knew I was Tuesday but I had a hard time convincing my mum I was full of grace. Pah!,
ReplyDeleteThat mouse must have finished by now :-) X

ReplyDeleteI am a Sunday girl
ReplyDeleteI am a Saturday girl (my poor dad had to miss his cricket match because of me!) and I was disappointed when my daughter insisted on being born on a Wednesday. But early on, we said she was 'Wednesday's child is full of whoah!' because she is so full of life and racing ahead with life! Definitely a more positive spin!
