More Cross Stitch......

 A few more cross stitch Christmas decorations. This is another pattern by Pamela Kellogg called "Crazy Christmas Stars".

I think I'm done with Christmas for awhile. It has kept me occupied while I listen to audio books. I'm listening to some by Terry Pratchett. A little escapism from the realities of world events.

Cross Stitch Christmas.....

I've been doing some Christmas cross stitch. Both these patterns are designs by Pamela Kellogg of Kittyandme on Etsy. I love her work.

This one is Crazy Trees ....

.... and this one is Crazy Holly Leaves.

They are for perforated paper but I opted to use Aida cloth. On paper they would make ornaments but also very unique Christmas cards. 

I didn't have all the colours she listed in her directions for a couple of the designs and since I have a lot of embroidery thread I substituted colours.  There is a site I use called Thread Bare that has a tool for matching to the closest DMC colour. 

I reinforced the cut edges by painting them... on the back edge...with Liquitex clear gesso as I just happened to have some and it worked great. They will not fray ever. To finish I added a ribbon then used white felt on the back to hide all the stitching.

WIP.........

I've finished the four cross stitch leaves. I really like the ombre effect that is used in some of the leaf sections.  It's very pretty. In person it's very clear but I'm not sure my pictures show it as the light wasn't that great to take pictures. 

The brown one made me think of chocolate the whole time I was working on it.

And.......I'm having a lucky summer it seems. I just won a $10 US coupon from the Dollmakers Journey Facebook page. They have a contest every week and I finally won. Already spent it on a doll pattern:)

Not the Hockey Team................

I'm working on a new cross stitch pattern by Pamela Kellogg that I saw on her blog Kitty and Me Designs called Crazy Maple Leaves.

I love crazy quilting and I am Canadian and the maple leaf is on our flag so I thought hey that's for me.

I've done a lot of needlepoint over the years but not a lot of cross stitch. OMG! I made so many mistakes in this one little piece that it is ridiculous but it was good practice. 

There are a lot a  thread changes and I got so confused.

I made a temporary needle base for the next one I do. I took a bit of cardboard and punched holes in it with a paper punch. Then I put the colour number and threaded a needle for each one.

Much better :)

There are four different leaves and I thought that together they would make a nice wall hanging. Not sure yet how I'll do it.

A Finished Make......

I decided to make myself a Stitch Diary as a place to keep my odd little bits of embroidery and crossstitch that I do.

I made the cover using plastic craft mesh that you can buy in craft stores. I bought about 10 of them eons ago when my favourite craft store (White Rose) was closing. Ten plastic mesh for a dollar. I finally found a use for two of them...LOL

I then covered the mesh with a thin padding on one side...almost like a very heavy Pellon interfacing....and regular quilt batting on the other. I had this gorgeous fat quarter with a Lily of the Valley pattern to use for the front book cover and a plain fat quarter in a matching green for the back. I believe it's a Robert Kaufman fabric.

The pages are fabric too. I had bought some packs of Pellon stabilizer....4 packs for $3 at Fabricland. It's supposed to be used for appliqueing, embroidery and monograms but what the heck. I used it as a stabilizer for my book pages. I covered the pages with some broadcloth that I inherited from my mum's stash. I was glad I finally found a use for it:) The pages are just a plain pale green and a very pretty pale blue that I can embellish on both sides. It sounds strange but they do match the book cover.

So now I have this nice soft squishy book...very tactile.....

Everything that I used came from my stash...bonus:)

Munday, munday......

Well I learned something new today by being a nosy blogger.

I love counted cross stitch so when I find a blog of a cross stitcher naturally I'm interested. And today I learned a new term.....Biscornu.

The dictionary says that a Biscornu is a French adjective that means "that which has an irregular form, with projections" or "complicated and bizarre." 

When I saw a picture of a Biscornu, I realized that I had seen them before but I didn't know that they had a specific name. 

I found some instructions on how to make this eight sided Biscornu here.

It looks a bit tricky but I think I might try to make one. I don't have any fabric that's suitable so I'm going to be forced to go fabric shopping.........oh dear ;)
