Blogger Issue re email notification.......

A few people recently have mentioned to me that they are not getting emails when someone leaves a comment on their blog. There is one way to fix this although to be honest it does not always work the first couple of times.

This email problem started about 4 or 5 years ago when Blogger did some sort of upgrade or change. It is not an unknown issue and I think it has stopped a lot of people from blogging.

Also, there are some commenters that you will never receive email notification from ever. I have about four followers like this. For this reason I check my blog comments so I don't miss them. This shouldn't happen and I don't know why. Sorry.

This explanation below is simplistic and I am making the assumption that the reader is not familiar with Blogger. I hope no one will take offence. I did it this way as I have written many how to guides for various systems and you cannot make the assumption that your audience knows what you know.

Here goes........

At the top left of your blog's front page you will see a link called "Design". Click on this. It will take you to the back end of Blogger.

On the left hand side there is an option called "Settings". Click on this.

You are now in the settings option area. You will see one called "Email".

Click on that and it will take you to a new area where you can make changes. It asks "Comment Notification email?" You will see a box and in it should be the email that you want your comment notification to go to.

All is good ....maybe....but maybe not.

Remove the email and click "Save settings".

Now reenter the email you wish to use for comment notification. Save settings again.

Repeat the above step again......remove your email......save settings.....input your email....save settings.

I know it doesn't make sense doing it twice or even three times but it is a necessary step.

You should then get an email from noreply+subscribe@blogger.com asking if you wish to subscribe to comment notification.

Click subscribe and you'll be taken to a new screen.....

So in the perfect world the problem should be fixed :)

There is one other step to take just in case.

On the settings sidebar there is an option "Posts, comments and sharing".

Click on this and take a look to see what you have set up. The question is "Who can Comment?.

What you wish to choose is of course up to you but I personally think the best choice is to select "Anyone".  If you restrict it to only users with Google Accounts then there will be some people who will not be able to leave comments ever.

So that's it. Hope this helps.

Sadly I have been inundated with spam in the last couple of days which is not lovely.....it's a b!*#dy pain. So I have turned on the spam blocker. Sorry:(

Interesting.....

If anyone out there is missing their followers on their blog you might find this interesting......when I am on Firefox I don't see any followers on my sidebar but when I'm on Internet Explorer I do see them.

So.....does this mean that Blogger is not supporting Firefox?

Has anyone had this happen to them as well?

I'm having lots of problems with blogger today. I couldn't even get into my own blog frontpage.

I can post a new post but I can't go and read it.

There are some blogs I can't access either and get the same message.

Is it just me?

I've even reverted to the new Blogger platform...ARRRRGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

UPDATE: I googled:) One solution is to clear your recent history and close down and boot up again:) Apparently this is not a new problem and people have had this happen on Facebook, Yahoo, Gmail and various other places.

I switched to Google Chrome as Blogger.com suggested.........I hated it!

So, now I'm back on FireFox. I used to have FireFox on my old laptop and I loved it. I didn't put it on my new laptop because I was just being lazy but I realize that it suits my purposes beautifully:)

So I'm now testing......will I have issues attaching a picture?

No problem....so is it because I'm not on Google Chrome or is it because Blogger decided to play nice today? Time will tell:)

New Blogger Format.....

So I have just changed over to the new format and I had to load on Google Chrome because what I was using (Internet Explorer) wasn't supported by Blogger.com.......hmmmm.

I have lost my favourites list which I will now have to get technical support (the son) to look at...he uses a Mac and just shakes his head but he will eventually help me if I whinge at lot:) I don't like Google Chrome but I guess I'll get used to it.

So far I am not amused though :(

I tried to load one picture and it kept on reversing and laying on it's side.......like this.....

So I thought....aha......I'll edit it so it's laying on it's side and then it will be right side up on Blogger. How cunning is that? It didn't work:(   So then I went back in and put it the right side up and voila!!!!  It is okay now.

But, if I have to do this every time I want to load a picture I may go nuttier than I am already.

Sigh........Wordpress is looking very good right now.

Blogger problems...

I seem to be having problems leaving comments on certain blogs. Why blogger allows me to comment on one blog and not the next is very strange.

Anyway, I do visit and read your blogs but I may not be able to comment...

Blogger is doing it again....

I'm having problems again with my Blogger profile. For some reason I can leave comments on some blogs and not on others and it seems to be a random thing. I do visit you all but silently which is probably a good thing:)

Bloggy upsets.....

Well...it would seem that I have been hit by Bloggeritis. I had read on various blogs that some people were unable to leave comments. Guess what? Yes. It's my turn:(

So while I can visit I can't comment. Sorry :(

ADDED: It appears that I can leave comments on some blogs but not all blogs.....very strange. It keeps asking me to sign into Blogger over and over and over and sometimes not. Oh well:)

My Blogger Profile...

I was told by another blogger that my avatar of my little mousie isn't showing on some of the blogs I follow so I have tried to correct this but for some reason I can't in all places. So now if you see this little guy it's me:)

I have three different avatars now.....a daisy (my original avatar), my mousie and the new mouse. I don't know what's going on but that the way it is.

There's gotta be a central profile that is a master profile but where that is I don't know:(

Added: Apparently this seems to be an ongoing issue which hasn't been resolved. I have gone in and removed myself as a follower on some blogs and then added myself on again and it seems to work but I may miss some......if so I'm sorry........I'm still there but I look different:)

A change is as good as a rest?

I was playing around last night redecorating my blog and decided to change my background........:)

Thought I'd be smart and save the old page just in case....guess what?....I did a save page as and it downloaded lots and lots and lots of pics from my blog and everyone's blog that's on my blog list........geez. I can be dangerous when left to me own devices.

100 Happy Days Challenge......day 3

You know it isn't really very difficult to find one thing in your day that makes you happy.

Today wasn't difficult at all. Today one of my happy moments was doing something on Blogger that I hadn't known how to do......and, if it wasn't for the kindness of another fellow blogger I'd still be bumbling about. Yesterday I mentioned that I didn't know how to link to other sites.

Well...........Laurie of Indulge Your Shelf left me this comment:

"To do hyperlinks in blogger, type a word, like 'flowermouse' and then highlight it with your mouse; then, click on the icon in the menu at the top of your post that says, "Link"; when the menu comes up you can put the web address in it. Then click "okay" and the hyperlink will be there."

And....yee haw it worked!!!!!!!!! Amazing eh?

Arrrrgggghhhh.........!!!!

So....I wanted to put larger pictures on my blog as I found a very helpful blogger who had a mini tutorial on how to do that. Except, no matter how I tried I screwed everything else up.

The pictures are even smaller now than they were before. 

Sob...........because of all my fooling around I then had to spend about an hour putting it all back together again. It doesn't look the same as it was before but I better leave it for now.

I'm going away now.....
