This and that......

Hello...yes I'm still alive:)

I bought some foam to make something and I had the leftover piece standing in a roll in my  sewing room. It didn't take long for someone to move in....

She gave me the look when I suggested that she get out:)

I actually baked something today. This is a big thing as I never bake unless forced to for family gatherings etc.

I was looking in my kitchen cupboard for something and rediscovered an unopened 540ml can of Canadian Maple Syrup that was given to my son on a photo shoot he was doing for a course on food photography. I'm embarrassed to say how many years ago that was....maybe 2004....eeeek.

I also discovered I had 2 packages of Tenderflake mini tartets...36 tart shells in total... in my freezer. I think I bought them last Christmas.......as I said I don't bake much...sigh.  I also had a half a package of walnuts.

I surfed around and found a few simple recipes for tarts using maple syrup. I chose this one because I had all the ingredients in house...Canadian Maple Butter Tarts....

http://www.food.com/recipe/canadian-maple-butter-tarts-271529

This recipe is for 12 regular size tarts but I used the 36 mini tarts and it worked out perfect.

OMG!!!!! They are delicious.......yummy!!!!! I thought they'd be super sweet but they weren't...a nice creamy. texture too. Sometimes butter tarts can be too dry.

It's a beautiful sunny day here today so I'm taking my book and a cup of tea outside to enjoy it. There won't be too many left before you know what.

Take care:)

  1. Your kitty is adorable and she loves that soft foam....no wonder she didn't want to move.

These Butter Tarts look so yummy and you make it sound wonderful with your tea.

I love to bake but my oven just does one temperature 500 degrees! Yes, it broke and so no baking until I purchase a new stove.

  2. Your kitty picture is absolutely priceless. I don't know of too many cats that could resist such a perfect hiding place....soft and cushie too!

  3. You must be a natural to whip up something so terrific with whatever you had on hand. I'm not much of a baker either.....but now you've got me craving the Southern version of your walnut maple tartlets - pecan pie!!

  4. Now THAT'S what I call "leftovers!"

You really should know better than to ask the cat to move.

  5. Trust your cat to find the roll of foam. If you had placed it on the floor she probably wouldn't have noticed it. Mine only gets into things if he thinks it is forbidden property. He has a perfectly good cat bed but shuns it in favour of a piece of sponge that The Doc only put down for a minute! just spotted your house mice on your side bar!! Hugs Mrs A.

  6. Oh my gosh, they look and sound delicious Mary Ann, thanks for the link to the recipe. My Aunt and Uncle have a sugar bush in Quebec and we are lucky to get some wonderful maple syrup from them each year. I'm sure I have tart shells in my freezer as well from last Christmas (I'm a 'baker' like you!) so will have to whip up a batch. Enjoy your sweet treat! Deb

If you leave a comment and I don't respond it's because I didn't get an email notice. It could be because you are a "no reply" blogger. Here is a way to fix that......http://morefromyourblog.com/no-reply-blogger-how-to-fix-this/
