Thread Painting

There was nothing on TV and I was bored so I took a look at some videos about stuff and I found this very simple demonstration on thread painting. I know it's more complex than this but for a newbie like me this seems not so intimidating as some I've seen:)

I have a very old sewing machine and it has a straight stitch and a zig zag and not much else. I was very surprised to see that they were all that the demonstrator used.

Take care:)

  3. Don't let a simple sewing machine discourage you from trying all sorts of things - I can work for months on end on just my straight stitch machine!

  5. I learned to threadpaint from quilter Ellen Anne Eddy--she is incredible with her technique. She taught me to work upside-down so that you put the metallic threads in your bobbin and it doesn't break or fray.

I have an old work-horse of a Bernina that allows me to use different bobbins and play with their tension to accommodate the different threads.

Cool post!! Brought me back to thinking of quilting again. Go check out Ellen Anne Eddy if you get a second. I love her work.

  6. It's actually quite a simple technique, and you've mostly "got it". the really exciting thing is what you can do with it! I love doing it, but I get terribly tense in the shoulders, then back...posture is really important, and you have to have a bit of tension in the hands and arms.
thanks for the nice comment on my blog re Tea Pot Dolls.

If you leave a comment and I don't respond it's because I didn't get an email notice. It could be because you are a "no reply" blogger. Here is a way to fix that......http://morefromyourblog.com/no-reply-blogger-how-to-fix-this/
